Our Teachers

Heidi Kerssies - Principal

Heidi has achieved her BA and Teacher Certification from Calvin College. She also has post BA studies from Simon Fraser University. Heidi's 9 years of teaching experience allows her to bring creativity to the classroom. She enjoys stepping out of the routines and ordinariness of day-to day classroom life by doing something fun or unusual with her students. Heidi's fluency in Spanish allows her to participate in teacher training in Spanish Speaking countries abroad.

Rachel van Gilst - Grade 3-4

Rachel has achieved her Bachelor of Christian Education and a Bachelor of Arts From Redeemer University College. Rachel has also completed a course on Learning Disabilities From Athabasca University. She is passionate about helping students with learning difficulties. Rachel has been teaching for 3 years and presents interactive and exciting lessons for her students.

Elizabeth Kraan (nee Horensma) - Grade 7-8

Liz has achieved her B.A. from the University of Toronto and Laurentian University. She has a Bachelor of Education from York University. Liz also has her Nursing Diploma from Seneca College. In her 2 years of teaching Liz has set high academic standards backed by plenty of hands on experience. Success for every student is a goal both academically and socially. She is the mother of 5 sons. Liz and her husband Rob have been involved in Christian Education since 1990. Liz is a lifelong member of the Chrisitian Reformed Church and loves to bring the Bible alive for her students.

Cheryl Edmonds - Grade 5-6

Cheryl has achieved Bachelor of Science and a major in Environmental Biology at University of Guelph. From Brock University she has her Bachelor of Education( Junior/Intermediate). Cheryl has just begun her first year of teaching. Her goal is to instill a life long love of learning in her students.

Donna Fisher - Grade 3-4

Donna achieved her Ontario Teaching Certificate at Hamilton Teachers College in 1967. Donna's many years of teaching brings confidence to her students. Her love for God is reflected in the classroom as she demonstrates to her students that God is the maker of all things.

Andrew Root- Arrowsmith Program

Andrew has recieved his Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts at the University of Windsor. Andrew is a retired public school teacher and brings 34 years of teaching experience to Silvercrest.

Natasha Mendres - JK-SK

Natasha has achieved her Bachelor of Education & Bachelor of Arts from the University of Winnipeg. Natasha is in her 9th year of teaching. She has also taught overseas. Her diverse teaching experience brings enthusiasm into her classroom.
